TYZIG

Casualty

On Aug 11, 2025, the 'Tyzig' suffered water ingress 70 nautical miles from Ribadeo, and requested evacuation. On board were xix people: a couple and their four children. Their plan was to travel for a year, following the route Madeira, Canary Islands, and Cape Verde, to the Antilles, and then return via the Azores. After receiving the alert, the CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Gijón mobilized the SRA helicopter Pesca II and the SAR boat 'Salvamar Capella', which towed the sailboat to Luarca. The cause of the emergency was a rope entangled in the propeller, which had caused damage to the hull. After temporary repairs, the sailboat, with only the father on board, for safety reasons, was able to sail to Ribadeo to be taken out of the water for permanent repairs.
