270 people rescued by two SAR vessels

Sat Dec 28 18:52:01 CET 2024 Timsen

On Dec 28 the Salvamar Al Nair has taken 30 sub-Saharan people, among them 28 men, one woman and a child, to Arrecife, who were travelling on the fifth inflatable boat that Salvamento Marítimo has been assisting in the last few hours on its way to Lanzarote. After the four previous rescues of some 240 people carried out by the 'Guardamar Calíope', who were expected to disembark at around 11.50 am in the capital of Lanzarote, the ÄSalvamar Al Nair' was heading to the same port, Puerto Naos, with another 30 people. Their boat was spotted at around 09.20 a.m. by the cruise ship 'Amadea' 44.4 kilometres from Arrecife. Before that, another 240 people arrived in Puerto Naos on board the 'Guardamar Calíope', which had rescued them during the night and the first hours of the day after receiving successive alerts at the Salvamento Marítimo centre in Las Palmas. Once they have landed in Puerto Naos and received medical and humanitarian assistance, the final count of the migrants will take place.
