The monitoring of the vessel ended when both Russian ships separated to each take a different course. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, NATO forces, especially maritime forces, have been closely following the movements of Russian units. In addition to the traditional deterrence missions of the Alliance's permanent naval groups, there has been increased surveillance of Russian ships transiting through the waters of the Mediterranean, the Atlantic or the Baltic near sovereign spaces. Spanish ships have been integrated into these groups, which join other allies to guarantee security in these waters and, in addition to exercising this deterrence, act as NATO's naval spearhead in the event of any crisis. Currently, three are integrated into two of the four naval groups of the Alliance: the minesweeper "Duero" in the mine countermeasures group, SNMCMG-2 and the Combat Supply Ship BAC "Patiño" and the frigate "Álvaro de Bazán" in the surface group, SNMG-2 Report with photo: https://www.larazon.es/espana/defensa/buque-armada-vigila-cerca-submarino-ruso-mediterraneo_2025031067ceb57539a0dc0001e70165.html.

MS MELENIA
The unloaded 'MS Melenia' has been anchored in pos. 12° 23' N 070° 13' Wm about 20 kilometers off the coast of Aruba since the end of 2024, while waiting to enter the port. The situation on board has since developed so dire, that the Coastguard of the Caribbean Netherlands has come to the rescue. On March 2, 2025, the Coast Guard received a via mail declaring an emergency from the ship andtook immediate action to help the crew with water and food as humanitarian aid. In cooperation with the Crisis Management Office (CMO) and the Red Cross, an emergency supply of 212 kg of food and water was organized and delivered to the crew of the tanker with a Coast Guard helicopter. After this, there was a meeting with the Crisis Team and Crisis Management Office (CMO), to assess the situation and coordinate the next steps. Within 48 hours after the emergency call, it was clear that the owner of the 'MS Melenia' is known and instructed Venezuela to take charge of the supply of the ship. Because thetanker is outside Aruba's territorial waters and also outside the Search and Rescue (SAR) area of Aruba, local authorities have ended the direct involvement in the case of the ship. The Government of Aruba is following the situation closely and is in contact with international partners for further coordination if necessary.
