GLEN SANNOX
Last minute snags on the 'Glen Sannox' meant that one of its decks remained closed on its official launch on Jan 13. The long-awaited vessel was one of two major ferries being constructed at Ferguson Marine in Port Glasgow. CalMac was still dealing with a small number of issues onte ferry, including oil contamination in a hydraulic system which has forced the closure of a mezzanine deck. The closure did not affect capacity because of low demand over the winter period. Originally due for delivery in 2018, the ferry and the 3,000-tonne sister ship 'Glen Rosa' were first ordered in 2015 and have endured a saga of costly delays and technical problems. The 'Glen Sanno'x will serve Arran and operate from Troon, South Ayrshire, with the Caledonian Isles ferry forming the other part of a two-vessel service to the island from Ardrossan, North Ayrshire, from March 28.
YI PENG3
Sweden's plan with the 'Yi Peng 3' was to board it and take it to a Swedish port after the cable breaks in November were discovered. The ship was asked to leave international waters and enter Swedish territorial waters, but this was rejected by the Chinese side. Defense Minister Pål Jonson said that the ship was asked to enter the port of Gothenburg for a full investigation, but they did not do that. Before the 'Yi Peng 3' left the area on Dec 21, Swedish police were instead invited in, without the opportunity to act, when personnel flown in from China examined the ship.

The fishing vessel rescued nine more people who it then transferred aboard the 'Minck'. 26 more people were picked up by the crew of the 'Minck'. All 35 rescued people were then transferred to the 'Armoise' and taken to Boulogne-sur-Mer, where the castaways were taken care of by the land rescue services and the border police. One teenager was taken to the Boulogne-sur-Mer hospital in a stable condition.

DOLPHIN 18
The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia announced that on the night of Jan12, the 18 Vietnamese seafarers who were on board the 'Dolphin 18', were welcomed back to Tanjung Pelepas in good physical condition. The 'Nicolai Maersk', which rescued the castaways, has provided the necessary services for their entry into Malaysia and was working on finalizing the formalities for their return to Vietnam. According to the captain's report, the engine of the 'Dolphin 18' stopped working in extremely severe weather conditions with strong winds and rough seas 274 nautical miles southwest of Vung Tau, forcing the crew to send out a distress signal. The 'Nicolai Maersk' received the call and confirmed its response before the 'Dolphin 18' sank rapidly. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said its Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) received an emergency call from the 'Nicolai Maersk', operating within Singapore's maritime SAR zone. The MRCC coordinated the operation and issued a maritime advisory asking nearby vessels to monitor and report any information about the vessel in distress. Administrative procedures for the repatriation of the castaways were underway.

CG NORTHLAND
The Coast Guard Cutter 'Wiilliam Flores' transferred 37 Cubans to Bahamian authorities on Jan 12, 2025, after two separate rescues off the Bahamas. A Coast Guard Auxiliary aircrew from Air Station Miami notified Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders on Jan Jan 9 of a group of people waving their arms in distress on Cay Sal Bank, Bahamas. A Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew notified Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders, on Jan 10, of a group of migrants stranded on Anguilla Cay, Bahamas. The aircrew dropped food, water and a radio to establish communications. The Bahamian authorities requested U.S. Coast Guard agency assistance in rescuing the people off both uninhabited islands. The 'Northland’ arrived on scene and brought the migrants aboard, due to safety of life at sea concerns. Once aboard the Coast Guard cutter, the migrants were processed to determine their identity and are provided food, water, shelter, and basic medical attention before repatriation to their country of origin or return to the country from which they departed.
HMNZS MANAWANUI
The removal of fuel from the HMNZS 'Manwanui' is likely to resume this week after it was halted due to bad weather last week. The recovery of fuel and other pollutants from thhe wreck was progressing with a quantity of fuel already removed. More than 100 tons were removed and brought to Apia over a week ago. It was initially estimated that the sunken vessel’s tanks had more than 900 tons of diesel. On Jan 13, due to deteriorating weather and sea conditions, the salvor moved the barge from above the 'Manawanui' to Apia to offload the recovered fuel and other pollutants held in the tank-tainers, Weather conditions in the harbour prevented safe operations and the tug and barge proceeded back out to sea to await more favourable weather and remained seeking shelter from the current weather system. Once offloaded, the tank-tainers will be securely stored at the port and then the fuel and other pollutants will be transferred to an agreed delivery point for processing and stowage whilst working through disposal processes. The Safety Buffer Zone around the site has remained in place, to protect the anchors and buoys, and to ensure the safety of people who might be on the water in the area. The NZDF dive team continued to monitor Manawanui and the surrounding area and support the Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa sea water sample collection. There is no timeframe set for the removal of the fuel from the Manawanui.

EVENTIN
The "Eventin" is to be towed to Denmark. However, a special permit is required for this. The tanker was expected to be brought to Skagen on the evening of Jan 13. However, this requires a special permit, which is still pending, the Baltic Sea Waterways and Shipping Office announced. Since the oil on board is embargoed goods, the ship could not be towed to Sassnitz or another German port, which would only have been possible in an emergency. However, the embargo on Russian oil also applies in Denmark. The tug 'AHTS Detector' (IMO: 9298911 ) has meanwhile reached the scene. Besides the 'VB Bremen', the 'Farmar Arion' (IMO: 9056789), 'Noornan' (IMO: 9513828) and 'VB Meteor' (IMO: 9892107) were at the anchorage in pos. 54° 29' N 013° 42' E on Jan 13.
