Fishing vessel in collision with ferry
The fishing vessel ' Sr. Fernando II', with 16 crew members on board, smashed into the bow of the the 'Peñafrancia VI' in a head-on collision off Lucena City in Quezon province on July 3, 2025, at around 7 a.m. The ferry was carrying 82 passengers and 18 crew members when the accident occurred minutes after departing from the Talao-Talao Port. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Lucena immediately responded to the incident and ordered the ferry to return to the port for investigations. The Coast Guard assisted in disembarking the passengers and unloading cargoes from the ship at the port of Talao-Talao. They were transferred to the 'Penafrancia IX' for medical checks and cargo assessment. All affected people on both ships were found safe and in good condition. The ferry sustained damage to its starboard bow and ramp, while the fishing vessel had suffered bow damage, There was no threat of an oil spill. The fishing vessel, en route from Tayabas City, made a steering error causing it to divert towards the approaching ferry. The owners of both vessels have reached a settlement. Mechanical failure in Talao
The 'Penafrancia X' suffered a mechanical failure in Talao, in Lucena City, on Oct 31, 2022. The vessel which had experienced engine failure a number of times while at the port, which caused it to drift and almost allide with an anchored vessel. The vessel then sailed, but became disabled shortly after it left the port.
