ACROBATICA SOLO SAIL

Casualty

The wreck of the 'Acrobatica' was discovered on the shores of El Ouatia, southern Morocco. The yacht was abandoned on the Atlantic in July 2024 after a violent collision with the tanker 'Silver Ray' during the Transat Québec–Saint-Malo race. Skipper Alberto Riva and his two crew members Tommaso Stella, and Jean Marre were rescued by the crew of the tanker and disembarked in the Azores. The boat itself was left adrift, presumed lost at sea. It has since drifted more than 1,300 miles, pushed by the wind and currents, making landfall on the Moroccan coast near El Ouatia beach, near the Canary Islands, The skipper's team was now mobilizing to organize the recovery of the sailboat. Alberto Riva planned to travel to Morocco after his next race to supervise the operation and ensure the cleanup of the site. Kiel

Misc. for ports and Vessels

The inauguration of the new shore power facility in Kiel on Dec 9, 2020, meant that Stena Line now have the possibility to connect 14 vessels at seven terminals with on-shore electricity during port stay. The new connection in Kiel will reduce the CO2 emissions from the two vessels Stena Scandinavica and Stena Germanica with 2,700 tonnes per year. In total Stena Line reduce its CO2 emissions with shore power with 13,000 tonnes per year. The new shore power facility in Kiel provides 100% green electricity, thus also avoiding NOX-, SOX- and particle emissions during the port stay of the 'Stena Germanica' and 'Stena Scandinavica'. Aside from Kiel, Stena Line have the possibility to connect to shore power supply at its two terminals in Göteborg, as well as in Karlskrona, Norvik, Trelleborg and Hoek van Holland, thus saving 13,000 t of CO2 per year in its network. Of the 36 vessels in the Stena Line fleet, 14 are now equipped with High Voltage Shore Connection systems (HVSC). “Shore power supply is important for us for two reasons: First, we want to have an immediate positive impact on the air quality in the ports we use. Secondly, we expect an even higher share of electrification in ports in the future – at cars, trucks, port vehicles and not the least at ships. With our battery and power bank projects, we develop our ferry services further in that direction constantly and we learn something new each day. In 2030 we expect to launch a 100 % battery powered and fossil free vessel”, say Niclas Mårtensson, CEO Stena Line and member of the Swedish Government Elelctrification Commission. Kiels mayor Dr. Ulf Kämpfer inaugurated the new façade of the shore power facility, which has been specially designed and illuminated. The inauguration marks the offizial start of the on-shore power supply for Stena Line in Kiel. The facility was co-funded by the state government of Schleswig-Holstein (8,9 m Euro) and the EU (1,26 m Euro). In addition, Germany´s federal government recently agreed on a political package to decrease the user prices for on-shore electricity significantly. “We are very grateful for the political support on various levels. The planned decrease of user prices for shore side electricity is an important step for the competitiveness of environmentally- and climate-friendly technologies in Northern Europe. At the same time, we are very happy about the continuous positive dialogue with our partners at Port of Kiel and the city of Kiel”, says Ron Gerlach, Managing Director, Stena Line Germany.

Corsica Linea had announced that the 'Mediterranean', which has been detained in Algiers on June 28, 20255, will return to Marseille on July 1. The French shipping company has seen its schedule of crossings between Algeria and France disrupted due to the detention of its ship for inspections by Algerian maritime authorities. Initially the company announced the cancellation of the scheduled crossing between Marseille and Algiers on June 29. In the non-departure certificates issued to passengers on June 29 by the ship's purser, it was stated that inspections by Algerian maritime authorities have been carried out since June 28 at 10 a.m. The company assured its passengers that it was actively working to offer them an alternative travel solution. Passengers were asked to disembark the ship and proceed to customs and police formalities before 4 p.m. At the Port of Algiers, hundreds of passengers, including many families, remained at length waiting for information regarding the fate of their journey. Passengers hoped to be compensated for some or to be transferred to other crossings, given that their initial journey was impacted by the prolonged docking of the 'Méditerranée' in Algiers.

BAYESIAN

Casualty

Images revealed what the inside of the 'Bayesian' was looking after it was resurfaced and placed in a manufactured steel cradle in Termini Imerese, In one picture, a lounge area can be seen, complete with sofas and other furniture, while another shows the hatch down to the lower deck. Now the yacht is back on land, a balloon-like instrument will be used to lift its 72m (236ft) mast after it was cut off with a remote-controlled tool to rest on the seabed. Salvage workers continued a ull sweep of the ocean floor nearby. After full examination of the yacht, the UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) will publish a report into its investigation. Things like the vessel's "escape routes" will be included in the final report. The family of the Bayesian chef Recaldo Thomas, who was among those who died, said in a statement through the Thomas family lawyers Keystone Law, that they want the investigation to establish the truth of what happened and bring those responsible to justice. A UK inquest will look at the deaths of Mr Lynch, Miss Lynch, Morgan Stanley banker Jonathan Bloomer, 70, and his wife Judy, 71, who were all British nationals. The US lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda also died. 15 people, including Mr Lynch's wife Angela Bacares, were rescued.
