DISNEY DREAM

Casualty

A statement has been released by the police after a father jumped overboard to save his five-year-old daughter who hadd fallen from the 'Disney Dream' near the Bahamas. Authorities have been investigating the incident, the Broward County Sheriff's Office has confirmed. The fall occurred while the ship was docked at Disney’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in Bannerman Town: “The Disney crew was well prepared. Clearly, their training and readiness paid off because they executed a successful ocean rescue. While there doesn’t appear to be anything suspicious, Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the circumstances that led up to the child falling overboard...This family is so blessed. It’s great to be able to respond to good news rather than what could have been a tragic outcome.”Although foul play was not suspected, authorities are reportedly working to determine exactly how the child fell, as the circumstances were unclear,

Singapore

Casualty

A 37-year-old forklift driver was hospitalized after a stack of containers toppled onto his vehicle at Singapore’s Pasir Panjang Terminal on Nov 25, 2024, at around 6:40 a.m. at the terminal’s older facility. The accident happened when the forklift, operated by the 37-year-old man, was moving a container. As the forklift reversed, a column of five stacked containers became unstable and collapsed. The top container fell directly onto the forklift’s cabin, tilting it backwards and causing the driver to fall to the ground. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was informed about the incident at 6:55 a.m. Emergency responders quickly arrived on-site and transferred the conscious worker to the National University Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. The Malaysian national had suffered lacerations to his head and body. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has launched an investigation into the incident. It has instructed PSA Singapore, the terminal operator, to suspend all empty container-handling activities at Pasir Panjang Terminal. Along with the suspension, the Ministry ordered a “safety time-out” at the terminal, meaning PSA Singapore must pause its daily operations to review workplace safety protocols and operations. The company has promised to cooperate with the investigation and take the necessary steps to improve safety at the terminal. VILAMOURA

Casualty

Ukraine claims that the 'Vilamoura' is linked to Russia's Ghost Fleet, used to circumvent Western sanctions. According to Ukrainian military intelligence, the vessel was carrying more than one million barrels of crude oil, when it was seriously damaged by an explosion off the coast of Libya on June 27. The vessel was located nearly 150 kilometers northeast of the Libyan coast in the Mediterranean Sea at the time. According to Ukrainian intelligence services, the Vilamoura is owned by the Greek company TMS Tanker Limited and has repeatedly transported cargo from Russian ports. The explosion caused the engine room to flood due to water intake, although the cause of the explosion remained unclear. The explosion was only reported on June 30, and the tanker is currently being towed towards the Gulf of Laconia, where it is scheduled for inspection and repair. The incident came as a series of unexplained explosions on oil tankers calling at Russian ports. In response, shipowners have begun inspecting their vessels for mines using divers and underwater drones. According to Ukrainian intelligence, the Russian ghost fleet now numbers nearly 1,000 vessels, with a total tonnage of over 100 million tons. These cargo ships reportedly regularly change flags, disable their tracking systems, and sail with limited assurances, in order to conceal their activities and continue the illegal export of Russian oil.

Tuapse

Casualty

Smoke has been observed at the port of Tuapse after explosions were reported overnight on Nov 29, 2024. Reports suggested that a large Russian landing ship may have been damaged. Smoke was rising from one of the berths, which is equipped with cranes for loading civilian vessels. Satellite images from SentinelHub on Nov 20 revealed a 135-meter-long vessel docked there, potentially a large landing ship, matching the class of Russian warships known as Project 11711 Ivan Gren. Currently, there is only one such ship in the Black Sea, the 'Pyotr Morgunov' from Russia's Northern Fleet.

Yuzhny

Misc. for ports and Vessels

Russia’s Defense Ministry showed footage of a Russian Iskander-M missile attacking the cargo ship 'Paresa' 4860 gt (IMO: 9008134) at the port of Yuzhny on Oct 6, 2024, a vessel Russian officials claimed was carrying ammunition from Europe. The Saint Kitts and Nevis-flagged general cargo vessel suffered a direct strike with a significant explosion. To date, no injuries have been reported. British maritime security consultants Ambrey assessed this attack as a further escalation, with vessels calling at Ukraine being at heightened risk of direct attack by Russian forces. Ambrey also assessed it as plausible that Ukraine may retaliate; therefore, vessels calling at Russian Black Sea ports are also assessed to be at heightened risk of physical damage. Having gone all year without any merchant ships coming under attack, the strike marked the third commercial vessel to be hit by Russian forces in the Black Sea in less than a month.
