The future of the'Maa', which grounded during a cyclonic storm on Oct 12, 2020, on the shore abutting Tenneti Park in Visakhapatnam, for which the previous YSRCP government proposed to utilise the ship for tourism purposes by developing it into a floating restaurant and which was approved to purchase and remodel the ship at an estimated cost of Rs 10.5 crore as a major tourist attraction, is still uncertain. The Gill Marines came forward to develop the ship as a resort through a special purpose vehicle (SPV) exclusively created for the purpose and sought for the support to provide infrastructure. Based on the request of Gill Marines, APTDC asked to submit a detailed proposal along with a DPR on the works to be handled by the SPV for the development of the 'Maa' in two phases Gill Marines commenced necessary repair and development works to the ship and proposed to develop the beachfront with a restaurant and landscaping. In order to facilitate APTDC to handle the ship project in collaboration with Gill Marines, a letter was sent to GVMC and VMRDA to handover Tenneti Park to the control of the APTDC for its development and future maintenance. With the formation of the new government, hopes to revoke the floating restaurant project got revoked. The AP Tourism was awaiting clearances from the forest Department along with other wings.

The US government has imposed sanctions on numerous entities and vessels involved in the transport of Iranian oil. The US government alleged that the sale of the oil was being used to fund the militant and destabilizing activities of Hezbollah and Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force (IRGC-QF). The 'Confidence P' (IMO: 9178044), 'Nova' (IMO: 9231224), 'Rival' (IMO: 9117818), and 'Tiyara' (IMO: 9231224), have also been placed under sanctions for their association with Abdul Jalil Mallah and his brother Luay al-Mallah, who was a recent addition to the sanctions list, while his brother, Abdul Jalil Mallah, has been described as being established in the illicit shipping business and frequently facilitating the transfer of Iranian oil for the benefit of Hezbollah and IRGD-QF. Both individuals and all their owned property have been sanctioned in the US jurisdiction. The Star Ocean Shipmanage Ltd. has been sanctioned, along with its three vessels: the 'Eternal Success' (IMO: 9307633), 'Eternal 8' (IMO: 9232448), and 'Eternal Peace' (IMO: 9259745), which were claimed to have carried out voyages that violated US sanctions on the IRGC-QF as recently as July 2024. The vessels reportedly have used deceptive practices, such as ship-to-ship transfers and AIS spoofing, to conceal their movements while transporting oil. The 'Serene I' (IMO: 9197832) has been sanctioned for loading and transporting IRGC-QF oil from Iran to China on behalf of Concepto Screen SAL Offshore, a company with alleged ties to Hezbollah. The owner of the tanker, the Dragon Road Ltd., based in the Marshall Islands, was also added to the sanctions list. The 'Feng Tau' (IMO: 9248473) was alleged to have been transporting oil from Iran to mainland China. Both the vessel and its Hong Kong-based owner, Tai Feng Hai Shipping Ltd., have been sanctioned.
Kiel
The Port of Kiel and AIDA Cruises are jointly celebrating the 100th cruise ship call this year to be supplied with shore power as the 'AIDAnova' docked at the Ostseekai Cruise Terminal on Sep 25, 2024. Dr Dirk Claus, the MD of the Port of Kiel, highlighted that Kiel had defined 100 shore power supplies to cruise ships as its benchmark for this year. Now this goal has been fulfilled ahead of schedule and ahead of the season’s close. Almost 70% of all ocean cruise ship calls handled at Kiel this year will make use of shore power supply. While the majority of supplies conducted in recent years accounted for tests and preparations, Kiel has now achieved 85% of the connections accounting for regular supplies - with just a 15% share remaining for tests of further ships wanting to take shore power. According to the Port of Kiel, ships wanting to take shore power usually need between one and three 'trial calls' for tests and preparations before regular supplies can start. During recent years, 22 ships have passed respective testing at Kiel, and 2024 alone saw another ten ships being integrated. Out of this year's shore power supplies, about one third have taken place at Ostuferhafen which saw its facility going into regular operation this spring. Here, among others MSC Euribia and Costa Diadema receive shore power regularly. Up to and including 2025, the Port of Kiel will have invested €55m into its shore power facilities. The port supplies its customers entirely with 'green shore power' purchased on the spot market according to demand. Out of the 100 cruise ship calls supplied with green shore power this year, Carnival Corporation accounts for 54 - out of which 41 calls are AIDA Cruises ships. Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises, outlined the mutually beneficial cooperation between the Port of Kiel and AIDA Cruises commenting that Kiel had recognized the potential of shore power supply early on and made corresponding investments. Eichhorn said the milestone call was the result of joint, collaborative efforts to make cruising more sustainable. German ports - with Kiel at the top – have takn a leading position in onshore power supply for cruise vessels. While shore power is increasingly turning into a standard in Germany's cruise hubs, according to recent CLIA figures, only 35 cruise ports worldwide have the facilities in place to offer shore power at present. Oil storage facilities havebeen hit, as well as a power plant. The Ministry of Health said that 80 people were wounded in a preliminary toll of the strikes, most of them with severe burns. Other health officials said the strikes killed a number of people and wounded others, but didn't elaborate. Reports indicated significant damage in parts of the port while Houthi officials insisted that the port is now operating normally. Two ships arrived at the port. Both vessels were coming from Djibouti. Records indicated the 'Brother 1' and 'Marsa Zenith' are each managed by companies based in Dubai. At least three of the port’s cranes were damaged and not operational.
