Engine failure in Kiel Canal

Enroute from Bützfleth to Klaipeda the "Georg Essberger" suffered an engine failure during the transit of the Kiel Canal on Jan 26, 2017, at 7:45 a.m. The ship had just left the large Southern lock in Brunsbüttel Eastbound when the trouble occurred. The master informed the other ships that the ship was unmanoeverable and he was trying to reach the navy pilings North in the inner port of Brunsbüttel with the remaining speed. The crew managed to tie up the tanker at the pilings, and after repairs were carried out, the ship resumed the voyage at 8.40 p.m. with an ETA in Klaipeda as of Jan 27, 9 p.m.

Tanker allided with Stena quay

The "Georg Essberger" suffered an engine blackout on the New Waterway near Hoek van Holland in the afternoon of Jan 19, 2016, and allided with a quay of a Stena Line terminal in spite of an emergency anchoring manoever. The ship was underway from the Botlek in Rotterdam to the Northsea and suffered bow damage. The tanker was towed back to the STR terminal in Rotterdam and entered the Damen Shiprepair yard in Rotterdam on Jan 22 for repairs of the damage.
