Freighter towed to Kiel with propulsion damage
The "Wilson Husum,", en route from Klaipeda, suffered an engine failure at the southern exit of the Kadet Trench on the morning of May 23, 2025. The crew spent a day trying to get the engine running again, while the ship was at anchor. Assistance was requested on May 24. The Hamburg-based tug"Fairplay 55" (IMO: 9021124), which was currently operating in Kiel and Hohwacht Bay to support weapons tests, was dispatched on May 24 at 10 p.m. and arrived at the anchorage south of Gedser on the morning of May 25. It took the ship in tow towards Kiel at a speed of six knots. The Kiel based tug "Parat" (IMO: 8128212) assisted with entering the Kiel Fjord on the evening of May 25. The repair of the propulsion damage was to be carried out at the North Jetty in Kiel, where the 'Wilson Husum' was safely berthed at 6.20 p.m. UTC.
