Allision at Senheim

Mon Dec 02 11:51:18 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'Taycan' allided with a piller of the bridge between Senheim and Senhals while ballasting downstream on the Moselle, en route from Trier, on the afternoon of Nov 30, 2024. The captain was slightly injured in the impact and taken to hospital for examination. Both the ship and the tanker suffered damage. On the morning of Dec 1, experts examined the bridge and the tanker. The bridge was completely closed for safety reasons. Initial investigations revealed that the bridge pier was significantly damaged. The statics of the bridge had to be thoroughly checked before it could be reopened. The closure of the bridge led to significant restrictions for road traffic in the region. As there was no damage to the concrete structure, but only to the cladding stones, which will probably have to be replaced soon, the bridge was released for traffic on Dec 2. The tanker was damaged at the port side bow above the waterline, but was allowed to continue its voyage after clearance from the Waterways and Shipping Authority. Investigations into the cause of the accident were ongoing.
