Grounding on the Main

Thu Dec 12 10:17:06 CET 2024 Timsen

On the morning of Dec 11, 2024, the 'Saale', en route from Würzburg to Stuttgart, ran aground on the Main when leaving the New Harbour in Würzburg. The port entrance was timewise blocked. Another ship was able to pull the Saale back into the port after a first attempt tp refloat it in the foremidday hours had failed, so that the incident was resolved after about two hours. Strong currents were thought to have contributed to the incident. The 'Saale' remained stationary in Würzburg as of Dec 12.

Grounding on Danube

Fri Sep 16 23:20:50 CEST 2011 Timsen

On Sep 15, 2011, the "Saale" ran onto a gravel bar on the Danube near Winzer with 850 tons canola. The ship got firmly stuck around 5.30 p.m. on the left bank of the river. The Romanian pilot had to wait for several other ships to pass when the backwash of a cabin cruiser running downstream pushed the ship onto the bar. The Water Police Deggendorf was on scene. In the night of Sep 16 the pusher tug "Domarin 12" proceeded from Vilshofen with a working platform and an excavator. Under the supervision of the Water and Shipping Authority, the "Saale" could then be pulled off. Because of damage to the bow thruster the ship was prohibited to continue its voyage.
