Substandard bulker banned from Australian ports

Wed Jun 05 19:18:30 CEST 2024 Timsen

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority(AMSA) has banned the 'Peace' from entering the Australian Port for three months for being unseaworthy. On May 31, 2024, the vessel was detained at Newcastle because of inadequate maintenance and severe deterioration of parts, including fixtures and fittings such as hatches. The AMSA described the condition of the vessel as poor, which risks the safety of onboard seafarers and the marine environment of Australia. Moreover, it had watertight and weathertight failures that might have caused flooding, cargo damage, loss of stability, or sinking of the vessel. On June 3, the bulk carrier was released from detention after all deficiencies were rectified.

Another HNA ship arrested

Tue Apr 01 11:47:08 CEST 2014 Timsen

The Hong Kong-based Shagang Shipping has gained an order for the arrest of the HNA-controlled tanker "Guangzhou" at Gwangyang port on Mar 28, 2014, in an effort to seek overdue payment of $66.4m from HNA Group. Shagang also arrested the HNA vessel "Bulk Peace" in Australia on Mar 19, but the vessel was released later by an Australian court, as the court believed Shagang had provided insufficient evidence that HNA was the vessel’s beneficial owner.
