Yacht grounded off Katarava
During a salvage operation, coordinated by the JRCC Tahiti successfully refloated the 'Nerio', which had run aground after it broke off from its mooring in the southern part of Fakarava. After initial unsuccessful attempts, the joint efforts of municipal services, private contractors, and local stakeholders prevented the total loss of the yacht, which on July 4, 2025, shortly after 7:30 p.m.,, contacted the JRCC Tahiti after grounding in the southern anchorage area of Fakarava. With the night already falling, the JRCC first ensured that the two people on board were safe on the boat, before organizing an assistance operation the following morning, The refloating operation began on July 5. Initially, the nautical resources of the Tetamanu guesthouse were mobilized, but proved insufficient to refloat the 22-meter monohull. The municipality of Fakarava then deployed its municipal launch, accompanied by a poti marara, to provide assistance. Despite several attempts, the yacht still could not be freed. The JRCC then connected the responders with the company Raiatea Carénage Services to prepare a new operation. On July 6, the municipality of Fakarava once again responded by deploying its municipal launch and barge. Thanks to the advice of the Raiatea Carénage Services, the support of the catamaran 'Roccatea ', and the combined efforts of the teams, the 'Nerio' was finally refloated and safely anchored.
