Bunker spill concentrated within Temasek Fairway

Tue Sep 11 09:23:34 CEST 2012 Timsen

After the collision between the "DL Salvia" and the "Sunny Horizon" in the waters between Jurong Island and Tuas View Extension Reclamation Area on Sep 9 at 2 p.m. the oil spill caused by 60 tons spilt from a breached bunker tank on the "DL Salvai" was concentrated within Temasek Fairway, about 700 metres east of Sultan Shoal. The MPA dispatched its patrol craft to deal with the spill, and oil spill response companies were activated in support. Seven patrol and anti-pollution craft have been deployed. Work was ongoing in the night of Sep 10, with the MPA coordinating the clean-up with other government agencies and the ship owners. The two vessels remained on the West Jurong anchorage. The MPA has issued broadcasts to ships to navigate cautiously when in the vicinity of the incident site. It was investigating the cause of the collision.
