Disabled cutter towed to Heligoland
On March 20, 2020, at 3.30 a.m. the 'Martje - GRE 5' issued a distress signal after having suffered an engine failure following an electrical short circuit. The vessel with two crew members on board was adrift about 12 nautical miles North of Heligoland and only 1,5 nautical miles away from an offshore wind farm. The currents drifted the disabled ship with three knots towards the installations. The nearby f/v 'Nordlicht' took the 'Martje' in tow and managed to maintain its position until the lifeboat 'Hermann Marwede' had arrived from the DGzRS station Heligoland. The tow was transferred onto the lifeboat which safely pulled the 'Marttje' into the island port with the two fishermen remaining on their ship. The operation was supported by weak NW winds and good visibulity. The fishing vessel left Heligoland again on March 20 at 8.40 a.m. after the damage was fixed, and arrived in Norddeich at 2.20 p.m. German report with photo: https://www.seenotretter.de/aktuelles/seenotfaelle/ansicht/news/fischkutter-droht-in-windpark-zu-treiben-seenotretter-sind-zur-stelle/
