Paper carrier aground in Svine Sound

Wed Nov 06 11:19:04 CET 2013 Timsen

The "Lysvik Seaways" carrying a cargo of paper ran aground in the Svine Sound between the old and the new Svinesund bridge on the Norwegian side on Nov 5, 2013, at 9 p.m. The ship had a pilot on board. The hull of the vessel which was enroute from Immingham to Halden, was breached. It suffered hole in a ballast tank with approx. 130 cubic meters of seawater. Police went on board and controlled both pilot and captain. At the time of the accident there was very thick fog and strong currents in the bay. The ship refloated with own power and docked at the Saugbrugs-Quay. The Sjøfartsdirektoratet was routinely notified by both police, captain and pilot.
