Chain of fairway buoy entangled in rudder gear

Tue Feb 18 13:02:46 CET 2014 Timsen

Due to a technical malfunction of the rudder gear the "Lucinda", 1015 ts (EU-No.: 03110538), allided with the fairway buoy on the Ems whilst sailing from Delfzijl to Haren in the morning of Feb 17, 2014. The chain of the buoy got entangled between hull and rudder of the ship which was loaded with soy. The master stopped the "Lucinda" with an emergency anchoring manoever. With the technical support of a boat of the river authority the chain could be removed from the rudder gear. The "Lucinda" was told to enter the next port which was Papenburg for surveys. At 3 p.m. it entered the port escorted by the tug "Gruno 4". On Feb 18 at 10 a.m. the barge resumed its voyage to Haren/Ems after having been declared seaworthy.
