Coastguard ship recovered capsized "Naddoddur"

Thu Aug 29 10:31:20 CEST 2024 Timsen

On the afternoon, of Aug 28, 2024, the 'Bergen' towed the wreck of the viking ship repllica '"Naddoddur" to the quay in Måløy. One woman had died after it capsized in Stadhavet on the evening of Aug 27. The nine meters long boat was built according to Viking traditions from the Faroe Islands and originally had two masts. There were six people on board the boat when it capsized amid winds of up to 40 knots and waves of five metres. Four of them were from Switzerland, one was from the Faroe Islands and one was from the USA. The police have opened an investigation and on Aug 28 interviewed two witnesses in the case. The lifeboat 'Idar Ulstein', together with an offshore ship and the ' Bergen', had searched for the boat and the last person who had not been accounted for. It was the'Bergen' that finally found the boat upside down and the woman still attached to it.
