Fire finally extinguished after four days

The fire in the hold of the 'FWN Adriatics' in the port of Antwerp has been extinguished after four days on July 20. The cargo caught fire on July 16 at around 11:15 Aa.m. M while stevedores were unloading pallets of plasterboard and vehicless. Immediately after the fire broke out,, the captain of the 'FWN Adriatic' had activated emergency procedures, closing the ship's hatches and releasing CO2 into the affected hold. The hatches were opened on July 20, and it was then determined that the CO2 release has been successful. The crew and experts were currently investigating the extent of the damage. Some of the cargo has been unloaded at the berth in the 5th Harbour Dock. The exact cause of the fire is still unknown. According to the operator ForestWave, a thorough investigation will follow. The ship had entered service in May of and started its maiden voyage only on July 12. It remained stationary in Antwerp oas of July 22.

The fire aboard the 'FWN Adriatic' has not yet been extinguished ao f July 17. The fire broke out during the loading of vehicles and plasterboard. The hatches were closed, the fire department has sprayed CO2 inside and was now waiting for the fire to go out, but that could take hours. It was unknown what exactly was on fire, however, pallets of plasterboard were initially on fire. The ship entered service in May of this year and embarked on its maiden voyage on July 12. The shipping company has a total of 29 ships, but has never before experienced such a serious fire on board.

On July 16, 2025, at 11.15 a.m. fire broke out in the cargo hold of the 'FWN Adriatic' in the 5th dock of the port of Antwerp near the Noordkasteel Bridge. The ship was carrying plasterboard and vehicles as cargo. The fire initially caused heavy smoke, advising local residents to keep their doors and windows closed. The fire department started extinguishing the fire from the quay, and a port fireboat was also present. After the fire fighters managed to close the ship's hatches, the smoke decreased significantly. The hold was to be flooded with CO2. The fire fighting was expected to take several hours. The Port of Antwerp-Bruges was urging shipping traffic to exercise extreme caution in the waterway from 5th Haven Dock km 1 to Amerika Dock km 1, as well as for berths 345 to berth 347. The cause of the fire was not yet known. The ship had arrived from Eemshaven.
