Damaged ferry almost repaired

Wed Oct 02 09:51:30 CEST 2013 Timsen

One month after the "Fromveur II" ran aground on a rock near Molène, Finistère, on Sep 3, the vessel was close to being repaired and will resume its ferry service during the forthcoming days. The crumpled steel and dents were repaired at the Piriou Concarneau yard. According to ship's operator Penn-ar-Bed, this work was nearing completion start of October. Sheet metal work was completed. The paint should start and the launch was scheduled for the weekend Oct 5/6, being subject to weather conditions. After trials, the ship should resume its service to Molène and Ouessant between 10 and 15 October.

Repair of damaged ferry to take at least three weeks

Fri Sep 06 10:41:34 CEST 2013 Timsen

The "Fromveur II" will be out of service for at least three weeks while repairs are being carried out at Moros in Concarneau since Sep 4 morning. The ship had suffered two breaches on starboard side with a length of 45 and 20 centimeters and a width of five centimeters. The hull suffered damage on two meters, and the port stabilizer was affected too. The damage survey was being conducted jointly with the Piriou Shipyard and Bureau Veritas to evaluate structural deformations of the hull. The "Enez Eussa 3" was called as a replacement ferry between Molène and Ouessant. Meanwhile an investigation was launched to find out why the vessel got out of the fairway and passed at the right of the narrow access channel to the port of Molène. The approach is marked by two poles. The very thick fog made a visual approach impossible. The Coastguard has interrogated the crew and delivered its report to the prosecutor on Sep 5 in the morning.
