Fire in Breskens

Fri Mar 20 19:20:26 CET 2020 Timsen

In the afternoon of March 19, 2020, a fire broke out in the engine room of the 'DC Vlaanderen 3000' which had moored in the commercial port of Breskens at 1.50 p.m., coming from Zeebrugge. The fire could be extinguished by the crew which flooded the engine room with CO2 and brought the situation under control. The deployment of the fire brigade was not necessary. To be on the safe side, it was decided to leave the engine room closed until the morning of March 20 when fire fightersfrom Breskens and Oostburg attended the site around 08:00 a.m. so that the engine room could be opened in a controlled manner and, where necessary, remaining hot spots immediately extinguished. However, according to the fire brigade, there was no longer any fire. The entire ship had to be ventilated due to high CO2 values. In the early afternoon, the firefighters were stood down.
