On Jan 15, 2025, the crew of the SAR boat 'Guardamar Concepción Arenal' (IMO: 9541655) medevaced a passenger with health problems from the 'Celebrity Infinity', en route from Barcelona to Arrecife, off Garrucha. The CCS Almeria of Salvamento Marítimo coordinated the operation. On Jan15, 2025, a crew member of the 'Chemway Arrow', en route from Saudi Arabia to Dongguan, needed to be medevaced. KPLP officers and a joint team consisting of Basarnas Banda Aceh, KKP Ulee-Lheue, ship agents, Immigration officers, and other relevant agencies, disembarked the 30-year-old Myanmar national in the northern waters of Banda Aceh, using the Basarnas Banda Aceh SAR vessel 'Kresna', which sailed from Ulee-Lheue Port at 06:30 a.m. WIB and went alongside the tanker at 07:45 a.m.- At 07:50a.m. the medical team from KKP, ship agents, and KSOP officers boarded the ship to assess the patient’s condition, followed by the Basarnas evacuation team. At 08:15 a.m the sick crew member, accompanied by the evacuation team, was transferred onto the 'KResna', which reached Ulee-Lheue Port at 9.30 a.m. An ambulance took him to the Zainal Abidin General Hospital in Banda Aceh for further medical treatment. On jan 13, 2025, the military authorities of Venezuela have detained the 'Four Plus', with a crew of Chinese nationality on board, accused of violating the country's sovereignty, in the Port of Guamache, Nueva Esparta state. The ship did not have the required authorization to navigate in Venezuelan territorial waters. A joint commission was formed, made up of Captain Jackson Bacallao González, commander of the Pampatar Coast Guard Main Station, personnel assigned to the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim), the Regional Anti-Drug Intelligence Unit 71, Migration of the Bolivarian National Police and the National Institute of Aquatic Spaces (INEA), carrying out the relevant inquiries. Following the seizure, the Maritime Administration Department of Guyana reported that the tanker was not registered in Guyana and flying a false flag, which was not an isolated incident; five oil tankers with ties to Syria, Iran, and Venezuela were sanctioned earlier by the US Treasury Department for false registrations. The general issue is set to be discussed, and measures to be developed against it at the 112th session of the International Maritime Organizations Legal Committee which is to be held in March 2025.
SUPERFAST I
On the afternoon of Jan 14, 2025, the Port Authority of Patras was informed by the Master of the 'Superfast I' that a 66-year-old foreign passenger of German nationality lost consciousness while the ship was in the process of being loaded in order to sail to the ports of Igoumenitsa and Bari. The man was initially given first aid by members of the crew, while later attempts were made to revive him by rescuers of the EMS, with negative results. In the end, he was pronounced dead by a doctor from the EKAV who went to the scene. His body was transferred to the General Hospital of Patras Panagia. The Central Port Authority of Patras, which conducted the preliminary investigation, ordered an autopsy to be carried out at the Forensic Service of Patras.
