Ferry breakdown caused delays
The "Volcán de Teno," suffered a breakdown on July 12, 2025, and has remained sidelined in San Sebastian de la Gomera since, with a domino effect of up to eight hours on the El Hierro, La Gomera, and La Palma routes. These delays were dealt with by the catamaran ferry "Volcán de Tirajana." The Armas Trasmediterránea Group sent a mobile message to its passengers informing them of the delay, although the estimated time did not match reality. In the case of El Hierro, where it was scheduled to depart at 5:30 p.m., it was reported that it would depart at 9:30 p.m. As the "Volcán de Tirajana" was in the port of San Sebastián de La Gomera at 8:00 p.m., there was no time for that to happen. In fact the "Volcán de Tirajana' arrived at the port of La Estaca on July 13 at 12:30 a.m., and set sail for Los Cristianos at 1:10 a.m., arriving 2,5 hours later.
Two ferries and one SAR boat assisted cayuco off Los Cristianos
On Feb 16 at around 4:35 p.m. LT, the ferry 'Benchijigua Express' informed the MRC of Salvamento Maritimo in Tenerife that it believed it had seen a cayuco, about 13 nautical miles from Los Cristianos. The 'Volcán de Teno' was nearby and heading in the opposite direction. It was diverted to the indicated position, where minutes later it confirmed that it was a cayuco and reported that it had begun to follow it. The 'Volcán de Teno' proceeded slowly and maintaining visual contact with the cayuco, heading towards the 'Salvamar Alpheratz' which had been mobilized to assist. At 5:25 p.m. the SAR boat confirmed to the ferry that it had seen the cayuco, thanked it for its collaboration and indicated that it could resume its course to its destination, Los Cristianos. After the approach manoeuvre, the 'Salvamar Alpheratz' escorted the cayuco to Los Cristianos. Report with photo: https://x.com/salvamentogob/status/1891181808328245449
