Bulkcarrier grounded near Baoshnyakovo
The 'Mercury Ocean' with 20 crew members on board dragged anchor and drifted aground in the night of Oct 25, 2020, at the Boshnyakovo Anchorage on the Western Sakhalin coast in the Tatarskiy Strait. The ship was partially loaded, it had been in the process of loading coal and by the time of the accident had 12,000 tons on board. The crew remained on board, and an SAR tug left Korsakov in order to pull the vessel back to deeper water. It remained stuck in pos. 49° 37.44' N 142° 7.90' E as of Oct 26, pounded by heavy surf. The storm and icy sludge made refloating attempts impossible. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uYCfqZLMss&feature=emb_title
