Ferry suffered ramp issue

Mon Jan 20 10:06:43 CET 2025 Timsen

The 'Loch Riddon', serving on the route Tobermory - Kilchoan, suffered a technical issue affecting one of the ramps on Jan 6, 2025. As a consequence, the ship had to operate single ended until further notice. The issue has been resolved only on Jan 18, and the vessel was no longer operating normal again.

Fire in engine room

Wed Feb 05 10:00:10 CET 2020 Timsen

While the 'Loch Riddon' was en route from Portavadie to East Loch Tarbert, Scotland, a fire broke out in the engine room, whilst alongside at East Loch Tarbert in position 55 51 59.6 N, 005 24 35.0 W, on Feb 3, 2020. The Scottish fire service and Tarbert CRT arrived on scene. The fire was contained and confirmed as extinguished on scene.

Heroic effort to save doomed fishermen of Nancy Glen

Sun Jan 21 10:08:12 CET 2018 Timsen

The crew of the "Loch Riddon" undertook a desperate attempt to rescue the skipper Duncan MacDougall, 46, and the Polish mariner Przemek Krawczyk of the capsized trawler "Nancy Glen - TT100“, 26,5 gt, on Jan 18, 2018, in Loch Fyne. The search for the two was now a recovery operation despite a heroic attempt to save them. They became trapped when the 40ft vessel overturned – with pal John Miller, 34, being rescued by a passing vessel and taken to hospital in Lochgilphead The staff on the CalMac ferry which had been enroute from Portavadie to Tarbert tied a cable to the capsized vessel in a bid to save the skipper and his deckhand. But the link severed before the salvage mission could begin, and the boat plunged into the 160 meter deep water. Travellers were warned to stand back because if the line broke, the recoil could kill someone. The only thing that could be seen of the "Nancy Glen" was the hull. Suddenly, the bow submerged, and only the stern could be seen. Then the line snapped and the boat disappeared. A crane was on its way to right the "Nancy Glen" shortly before it vanished. RNLI crews were scouring the loch on Jan 19. Another group was also combing the shore for clues as a major probe into the accident kicked off. The whole community of Tarbert and fishing community in Argyll and the Clyde were in a state of shock. A local church was opened to allow residents to pray for the missing pair’s families. The Church of Scotland and Free Church of Scotland were working closely with the Fishermen’s Mission in Argyll to support the community and the emergency services personnel involved in the search operation. Local minister Rev Robert McLeod, from the Free Church, paid his respects. Pupils at Tarbert Academy were offered support as news of the loch tragedy spread. Meanwhile, members of Tarbert Youth Group cancelled a planned session. The fate of the "Nancy Glen," recently fitted with a new crane, was likely to be the focus of a probe.
