Ferry capacity was reduced due to technical issue
The 'Isle of Arran', sailing on the route Oban-Colonsay, sufered technical issues affecting the lifeboat davit and the starboard side FRB on March 8, 2025. As a consequence, there will was a reduction in the maximum number of people on board since. The booking system has been updated to reflect this reduction. Repair plans were being worked on, and the operator CalMac was in the process of arranging attendance from specialist engineers to rectify the issues. On March 12, the technical issue affecting the lifeboat davit and Starboard FRB on the ferry has been resolved, and the full passenger capacity has thus been re-instated.
Passenger lift out of service
The passenger lift of the 'Isle of Arran', serving on the route Ardrossan-Brodick, was out of service on Nov 27, 2024, until further notice Passengers requiring lift access were asked by the operator Caledonian MacBraine to travel on the ferry 'Alfred' on the Troon - Brodick route, if possible.
Ferry crew rescued woman who fell over board
A woman fell over board from the 'Isle of Arran', which was travelling between Brodick and Ardrossan in the Firth of Clyde on June 10, 2024,, just before 8:30 p.m., as the ferry was approaching Ardrossan. The crew launched the rescue boat, and the passenger was pulled from the sea and returned to the ferry. When it docked at Ardrossan harbour, an ambulance took her to Crosshouse Hospital. An investigation will take place into the circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.
