Catamaran run aground and lost

Fri Jul 04 10:00:10 CEST 2014 Timsen

On July 1, 2014, at 10.45 p.m. the "Nora Victoria" ran aground on the rocky coast at Skjoldastraumen between Haugesund and Aksdal at the northern tip of Finnøy. The catamaran got stuck near the Høna-l/h, and the starboard side hull was breached. After the ship floated off, it developed an increasing list and finally foundered on deep water. The crew of two saved itself in a dinghy and made it to shore. Four hours later the skipper was caught by the police at Skjoldastraumen in Tysvær and had to undergo a blood test, but the police concluded that there was no suspicion of intoxication. Investigations by air surveillance and a ROV on July 3 showed that diesel leaked into the water after the wreck, however, there was little danger of contamination. On board were four tons of diesel fuel and 0,4 tons of hydraulic oil. It was not known how much has spilt. On July 4 divers were sent down to plug the leak. The municipality also clarified booms and other equipment for collecting diesel.
