Loading activities at Amamapare Port interrupted by strike

Mon Jul 11 16:21:05 CEST 2011 arnekiel

Due to the strike held by thousands of PT Freeport Indonesia employees, loading activities at the Amamapare Port (Portsite) have been interrupted. Export ships destined for Spain, China and Gresik have been unable to leave port as they don’t have their cargo. As of yesterday afternoon, most supply ships were tied at Portsite. Only two supply ships have their loads, the MV Aijkwa and the MV Kamora. “The other export ships are still waiting for their loads,” said Sirakoit, an employee at Freeport’s contractor, PT Kuala Pelabuhan Indonesia. MV Sirembo, scheduled to sail to Spain, is held back at the port waiting for 14,000 tons. MV Jin Hui, which is scheduled to go to China, is also waiting for 9,000 tons. The Sider King ship is held back a few miles from Portsite as it does not have a permit to unload. “The employees who arrange the permits are also on a strike,” said Sirakoit.
