Linquenda refloated and towed to Lauwersoog
The "Linquenda - ZK 80" was fixed on a sandbank between Schiermonnikoog and Ameland for six days because the strong ice and the strong east wind hampered salvage work. On March 5 the Marine Bos Services and Noordgat finally succeeded to refloat the ship with the 4000 hp of the "Hurricane" of Noordgat and the "BMS Noormanand" which pulled it into the port of Lauwersoog where the damage was being examined at the Next Generation Shipyard. The ship was timewise threatened to be buried under the ice, but as this did not happen in the end, the damage to the fishing vessel remained limited. Grounding near Schiermonnikoog
In the evening of Feb 28, 2018, the "Linquenda - ZK 80" ran aground in the Westgat near Schiermonnikoog in pos. 53 30N, 06 04E. The old KNRM lifeboat "Suzanna" (MMSI: 244445000) was called to assist. The lifeboat "Suzanna" managed to establish a towing connection with the vessel, but while pulling, it got the towing wire in one of the two propellers and also got a problem with the rudder. The towing line was cut and the salvage operation had to be canceled. The Dutch Coast Guard then alerted the lifeboats of Paal 8 Terschelling and of Eemshaven. At 10.30 p.m. the "Suzanna" was able to return to the port of Lauwersoog with own power. It was hoisted out of the wate rand the propeller was cleared. The lifeboats "Frans Hogewind" fromn Terschelling and the "Jan & Titia Visser" from Eemshaven then headed towards the stranded cutter. Both lifeboats were on scene at 11.45 p.m. The three fishermen were taken off board at 12.15 p.m. by the “Frans Hogewind” Due to a lot of ice and low water levels it was unclear weather the ship could be refloated on March 1. The KNRM has just put a number of newer lifeboats out of service, because the ice on the Wadden Sea made it impossible to operate them. In case of emergency, the KNRM can call on lifeboats from the old fleet, including the "Suzanna". Dutch report with photos: https://www.knrm.nl/nieuws/drie-vissers-gered-van-kotter-in-ijskoude-storm
