Fire was arson

The fire which raged the "Zeefakkel" on Oct 17, 2911, in Hellevoetsluis appears to be arson. The fire department has found evidence of this, and the seaport police started a further examination. The fire started around 07.15 a.m. at the bottom of the former Navy ship. The fire was difficult to achieve for firefighters, who eventually cut a hole into the deck in order to continue fighting. The extent of the damage is still uncharted. Former members and members of the Sea Cadet Corps Zeefakkel want to collect money to repair the "Zeefakkel". Fire onboard

This morning around 08.00 a fire was noticed on board while the Zeefakkel (owned by the Seacadets Hellevoetsluis, in Germany Marine Jugend http://dmj.de/)was moored. By means of the "Cobra"-system (high pressure jet with abbresive means)a hole was cut trough the maindeck to reach the fire location which was located in the officer's quaters down in the hull. Around noon the fire was put out. The damage is quite extensive, after investigation by the experst a desicion will be made if the vessel will be restored or in the worst case will be scraped.
