Seven injured in collision off Istanbul

Sat Feb 09 16:38:39 CET 2013 Timsen

In the afternoon of Feb 8, 2013, the Russian cargo m/v "Amur 2521" (IMO: 8721478), was in collision with the "Yeditepe 1" in Istanbul. The cargo ship was enroute from Batumi, where it had sailed on Feb 5, to Ravenna. It was trying to pass the waterway without the assistance of a pilot, despite strong recommendadtion of International Maritime Association. Seven passengers aboard the Turkish 39-m-ferry were injured, two of them seriously. A tug of the General Directorate of Coastal Safety transferred the injured to shore, and fast rescue boats took the necessary safety precautions. The "Amur 2521" was ordered to drop anchor at the Ahirkapi anchorage.
