Cargo ship disabled in Bosphorus

On Dec 29, 2021, at around 4.30 p.m. the 'Barlas', en route from Gemlik to Constanta, suffered an engine malfunction off the Kiz Kulesi in the southern Bosphurus. The ship emergency anchored, and under the coordination of the Vessel Traffic Services Center, got assistance by the tugs 'Kurtarma 5', 'Kutarma 1' and the lifeboat 'KEGM-4' within an hour. The strait traffic was suspended until the vessel was moored in the Ahırkapı anchorage area. As of Dec 30, the ship remained stationary in pos. 40° 59.02' N 028° 56.79' E. Collision off Babakale

The bulk carrier "Panda", enroute from Istanbul to Damietta, was in collision with the "Barlas", which was underway from Tuzla to Bizerte, in the outskirts of Babakale at Çanakkale on Dec 6, 2018, around midnight. Both ships were sailing in the same direction off the coast in the Ayvacık district and suffered slight damage on the shell plating above the water line. Neither of the ships requested assistance and both were able to continue their respective voyages.
