Refloated, salvage continues

General cargo vessel Yaakob II was refloated on July 15 2012 after sealing the holes and drying up hold or holds, and a fore compartment. Vessel was anchored in Koklakoura bay, Lipsi Island, and boomed. As of morning July 16 salvage works continue, tug Aegeon Pelagos standing by. Freighter Yaakob II bound for Syria ran aground in Aegean sea

General cargo vessel Yaakob II ran aground near Leipsoi island, north of Leros, Greece, southern Aegean sea, in the evening July 12 2012 in position 37 17N 026 58E, en route from Aliaga, Turkey, to Latakia, Syria, with 1500 tons of steel on board. Presumably vessel suffered hull breach and water ingress, which is under control. No fuel leak reported. Crew is 2 Syrians and 8 Egyptians. Salvage is under way, Greece tug Megalochari X assisting the distressed vessel. As of early morning July 14 both vessels were in the same position. Maritime Bulletin http://www.odin.tc
