On Oct 18, 2010, the "Costa Classica" clashed with the "Lowlangs Longevity" early in the morning at the mouth of the Yangtze River, northeast of Shanghai. The "Costa Classica" suffered a long slit on its side and lost control with a power glitch. The accident happened at 4:45 a.m. as the liner was heading to a city port from South Korea's Jizhou Island and clashed with the Belgian "Lowlands Longevity" which was sailing in the same direction. Five good samaritan ships arrived at the scene after the accident. Two of them escorted the cruise ship to the Waigaoqiao Port about 10 a.m., while the cargo ship went to Wusong Port for investigations.
