Difficult medevac near Melk

A crew member of the 'William Wordsworth', en route from Bratislava to Linz, suffered a medical emergency on the evening of Sep 22, 2025. The Melk Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Red Cross, was alerted to provide the necessary assistance. Transporting the patient proved challenging due to the cramped conditions on board. The rescue team had to transport the sick crew member through narrow corridors, up a steep ramp, and finally down an embankment to the waiting ambulance. From there, further treatment was provided, followed by transport to a nearby hospital.. The rescue was challenging not only due to the structural conditions of the cruise ship, but also the difficult access to the Danube bank near the power plant.
