Heavy collision in South China Sea

Tue Nov 23 10:30:40 CET 2021 Timsen

The 'Wan Hai 288', en route from Singapore to Hong Kong, was in collision with the Hongkong flagged bulk carrier 'AMC Navigator', 31260 gt (IMO: 9291078), which had just sailed from the Yiu Lean Shekou Dockyards en route to Hong Kong, in the night of Nov 17, 2021, in the South China Sea. Both ships were under way, but the 'Wan Hai 288' had a restricted manoeverability due to an oncoming container ship at her port side and couldn’t swing to port as it was required by the circumstances to avoid the collision. She suffered heavy damages at the bow and was towed to the Hong Kong Anchorage by two tugs, where she mooored in pos. 22° 09.67'N 114° 07.10' E on Nov 20. The bulk carrier was seriously damaged too and was slowly adrift in pos. 21° 47.69' N 114° 15.43' E south of the Hong Kong–Macau line as of Nov 20. On Nov 21 it moored on Hong Kong anchorage in pos. 22° 09.94' N 114° 06.57' E. The 'AMC Navigator' berthed at the Yiu Lian Shekou Dockyards Port on Nov 22 at 1 p.m.
