3 workers died from asphyxiation on RBD Shanghai

Fri Jun 24 13:06:57 CEST 2011 arnekiel

Three workers died from asphyxiation at Mundra port on Thursday after the ship operator had by mistake locked them up in some part of the cargo ship they were working on. The vessel had docked at the port in Kutch to unload coal. Port authorities said the victims - Baban Shrengare, Motisihh Sodha and Devsai Parmar - were on the deck of RBD Shanghai which had anchored at Mundra with coal brought from China. After the unloading operation was completed, the supervisor on the jetty took attendance of workers and came to know that Shrengar, Sodha and Parmar were missing. However, by that time, the ship had lifted anchor and was on its way to Africa. Port officials reached the ship in a tug and after brief search, found the bodies of the three men in a locked place. The ship operator had apparently not noticed them on the deck. When informed, police rushed to the spot. The bodies were taken to Mundra General Hospital for post-mortem.
