Ship was in danger of sinking in Zutphen

Tue Dec 03 09:27:40 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'Vista Mare', en route from Millingen to Moerdijk with four crew members on board, sprang a leak due to a collision in the Zutphen Industrial Port on the late afternoon of Dec 2, 2024, and was threatened to sink. By pumping the watrer out and unloading part of the heavy cargo, the risk of sinking was averted. The fire brigade was alerted just before 6:00 p.m. and had difficulty reaching the location due to several closed gates. Several fire brigade units responded. In addition to the Zutphen fire brigade, divers and a boat from Deventer were also called in.The ship had already started to list to starboard side when emergency services arrived. In order to get the situation under control, 800 tons of ore were unloaded from the cargo hold. This ensured that the ship became stable again. After the complete unloading, the 'Vista Mare' sailed to a shipyard under its own power for repairs in the evening. Rijkswaterstaat and the shipping inspectorate were investigating the incident further. It is still unclear whether fuel or other substances have leaked. At the end of the afternoon, a cargo ship in the Zutphen Industrial Harbor got into trouble and threatened to sink. The ship is already listing heavily to the right, making the situation serious.
