Mechanical failure off Haydarpaşa Breakwater.
After sailing from Altinova on Aug 27, 2025, en route from to Ordu, the 'Viktor Zabelin' suffered a mechanical failure off the coast of the Haydarpaşa breakwater in Istanbul on Aug 28. The ship was taken in tow by the tug 'Kurtarma 9' (IMO: 9598581) and safely moored at Ahırkapı in pos. 40° 59' N 028° 57' E. The response was coordinated by the Istanbul Vessel Traffic Services Center of Coastal Safety; The vessel remained stationary at its anchorage as of Sep 3. Medevac off Bremerhaven
On Dec 24, 2021, at around 10 a.m., sailor on board the 'Viktor Zabelin' complained of severe toothache in the Weser estuary off Nordenham-Blexen. The lifeboat 'Theo Fischer', stationed in Bremerhaven, made the short journey from its own berth to the freighter and went alongside. The crew took the sailor and an accompanying person safely on board and brought them both to Bremerhaven. There the land rescue service took over the further care of the sick man. On Apr 22, 2010, French authorities stopped the "SDS Rain in the Mediterranean after it was observed while illegaly pumping oil pollutants into the sea by a customs plane 18 kilometres off Marseille. The oil pollution covered an area of 22 km length and 20 metres breadth between Marseille and Toulon. The "SDS Rain" was underway from Marseille to the Turkey, but was stopped and forced back to Marseille, where it berthed on Apr 23 at 7.20 a.m. at the Quay aux Charbons. Ship and cargo were detained.
