Grounded river cruise ship blocked the Danube

Mon May 18 09:37:42 CEST 2015 Timsen

On May 17, 2015, around 5 a.m. the "Viking VE" ran aground on the Danube in Bogen, Straubing-Bogen, community. The ship was sailing river downstream when it got stuck off the port Straubing-Sand due to a navigatal mistake. None of the 181 passengers and 51 crew members were hurt. They were transferred to shore in the run of the day and accomodated in surrounding hotels. In the evening hours a tug managed to refloat the river cruise ship which was towed to the port of Sand for surveys. River traffic was free again at 6 p.m.
