Container ship broke lose from its moorings

The 'Vicente Pinzon' broke lose from its berth after the mooring cables snapped at the Port of Itajaí in Santa Catarina on Aug 27, 2025, short time after its arrival en route from Navegantes. The container ship drifted into the fast-flowing river, prompting the swift deployment of several tugbs to bring the vessel under control and re-berth it. New vessels give Alianca Navegacao cabotage edge

The christening last week of the Vicente Pinzon marks the completion of Alianca Navegacao’s reais 700 million ($224.5 million) cabotage and coastal fleet upgrade aimed at securing its dominance in the Brazilian cabotage market. The vessel with a capacity of 4,828 twenty-foot equivalent units and its identical sister, Bartolomeu Dias, will allow the carrier to ship more cargo on services connecting to the Amazonas city of Manaus.
