Medevac off Guernsey

Fri Jun 26 10:46:54 CEST 2020 Timsen

On June 25, 2020 at 12:00 a.m., the CROSS Jobourg was notified by the 'Atlas' that a crew member was suffering from serious discomfort. The ship was 15 miles northwest of the island of Guernsey. After consultation with the Maritime Medical Consultation Center (CCMM) in Toulouse, the Maritime Medical Coordination Service in Le Havre and the Maritime Medical Coordination Service in Brest it was decided to proceed with a immediate medical evacuation. The CROSS then sent the Caïman helicopter of the naval air base of Lanvéoc-Poulmic with a medical team on board. At 02:30 a.m., the medical team was hoisted on board the 'Atlas' where they carried out a first medical check-up which confirmed the need of an evacuation. The sailor was hoisted aboard the helicopter at 03:30 a.m. and transferred to the La Cavale Blanche Hospital in Brest where he was taken care of at 4 a.m. by medical teams.
