Allision in Duisburg
In the foremidday of Jan 28, 2015, the "Melvin" allided with a railway bridge spanning the Rhein-Herne-Canal in Duisburg-Meiderich. The ship was passing the locks around 11 a.m. when the 52 year old master got inattentive and hit the bridge with his ship which was carrying 541 tons of cargo. The bridge was closed for one hour during which she was inspected and found to have remained undamaged. The master of the vessel suffered a shock and had to be medically treated. The ship was barred from sailing as it had lost the antennas which were necessary for navigation.
