Dispute on substandard vessel

Thu Mar 28 19:18:05 CET 2019 Timsen

A dispute among the nine crew members broke out on board the "Axis" on March 26, 2019, on Cotonou Roads, Benin. Recently, the Ukrainian Union of Maritime Transport cautioned against cooperating with the unreliable owner of the vessel. Three were from Ukraine, two from the Philippines and four from Panama. Despite the fact that five crew members have ended their contracts, they have not been replaced or repatriated and were not receiving any wages for their work, and the owner reportedly owed the crew three months wages. The Ukrainian crew members from the vessel approached them about the wage arrears and the poor conditions on board the vessel. The food supplies and fresh water have almost run out, and there wer eproblems with electrical power. Currently, representatives of the International Transport Workers' Federation are in London trying to solve the situation.
