Yacht withdrew from race following water ingress

Tue Nov 28 21:05:02 CET 2017 Timsen

On Nov 27, 2017, the "Varuna IV" suffered water ingress short time after the start to the RORC Transatlantic Race – the first leg of the Atlantic Anniversary Race. At 5.20 a.m. a problem with the starboard bow was reported while the ship was sailing at 20knots speeds in swells of two meters. The yacht changed course to reduce the impact of the waves and prepared the life rafts. The RORC-team was informed, and two crew members managed to fix the damage, but the yacht had to withdraw from the race and headed to Lanzarote.
