Follow up of allision in Chittagong

Mon Feb 03 18:20:11 CET 2020 Timsen

After completion of repairs of its allision damage suffered when alliding with the 'Indigo Silva', the bulkcarrier 'Niton Cobalt' resumed discharging the balance of 4500 tonnes of damaged cargo into a lighter vessel at Chittagong outer anchorage on Jan 19, 2020. The operation was expected to be completed this week, and the vessel was scheduled to sail for Singapore then. The ship had been in allision with the bulk carrier 'Indigo Silva' while manoeuvring for departure to its next port of destinaation Mongla on Dec 17, 2019. The 'Niton Cobalt' contacted the bulbous bow and stem of the 'Indigo Silva'. The hull suffered damage at the sheer strake at cargo hold No.5, and there was also a rupture in the hull in the forward part of cargo hold No.5 causing a flooding of the hold which was containing gypsum in bulk. The 'Indigo Silva' had arrived at Chittagong outer anchorage on Dec 10 and sailed for Gladstone on Dec 26. Next port of call was Bell Bay before heading to Bilbao with an ETA as of Feb 22.
