Ship left Great Yarmouth two years after detention

Wed Oct 24 11:54:57 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Malaviya Twenty" which had spent two years stranded in an English port because of legal problems has finally left Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, renamed "Typhoon", bound for Santander, ETA Oct 26, 2018. The ship had been detained in June 2016 over unpaid port fees and crew wages. The ship was originally impounded by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and a prohibition notice on the ship issued after defects were found, leaving it unable to be moved. The ship was bought by the Greek Laskaradis Shipping at an auction of sealed bids held by the British Admiralty Marshal, and all legal requirements were settled. The crew of 12 was released to return home and needed repairs carried out.

Arrested vessel finally to be sold

The "Malaviya 20" which has impounded in an English port for more than two years was finally on the verge of being sold. She has been stuck in Great Yarmouth in Norfolk since June 2016 due to legal wrangles and was now being sold by the Admiralty Marshal. Bids for the ship will open on Sep 11, with the proceeds going to pay debts including crew wages and port fees. Captain Nikesh Rastogi joined the already-marooned vessel 18 months ago but has not been paid since late last year, along with his three crew members. The ship was detained by the Admiralty Marshal when the crew's lawyers secured a High Court order last month. The owners went into liquidation in January.

Remaining crew to be repatriated soon

Thu Aug 09 12:10:52 CEST 2018 Timsen

The Indian captain stuck aboard the "Malaviya 20" in Great Yarmouth was due to return home soon after being stranded on board since 18 months. The ship had been detained for unpaid wages and port dues since July 2016. Most crew members had since been repatriated, but Nikesh Rastogi stayed on board along with three other crew members due to a stalemate with the harbour owners. They will fly home in the coming weeks. They had received no wages this yar. The sale process of the vessel should conclude in September and the crew be paid.
