Loss of modules being investigated

Wed May 22 11:54:54 CEST 2019 Timsen

After the loss of the barge "Locar V" and the modules of the P-71 platform enroute to Espírito Santo on May 20, Petrobras, together with the Brazilian Navy and IBAMA, carried out an overflight of the wrecksite in the morning of May 20 about 120 km off the coast of Santa Catarina. During the aerial survey, the company did not detect oil in the sea. Meanwhile the state has set up a commission of inquiry to assess the causes of the accident. Petrobras investigated the accident along with the Jurong shipyard, where the modules were to be integrated, Locar, the owner of the barge, and Tranship, the owner of the tug. The M-15 and M-16 modules were technically lost, causing a delay the start of the FPSO production by at least a year.

Mon May 20 11:15:03 CEST 2019 Timsen

The barge "Locar V" of the Locar Guindastes e Transportes Intermodais (built 2009), being loaded with the two platform modules 15 and M 16 of the FPSO "P 71", partially sank on May 18, 2019, at 8 p.m. in position 26 02 S 047 34 W, 120 km off the coast of Itajaí. She was being under tow of the "TS Favorito", bound from Itajai to Espírito Santo when the barges were wrecked about 120 km off the coast of Itajaí. No injuries, no pollution was reported. The "P-71" is the last of the six FPSOs contracted by Petrobras. Initially, it would have its hull built by the Ecovix group at the Rio Grande Shipyard, but the contract was canceled with 30% of the works completed. The hull being built in China, but the modules were to be integrated in Aracruz by the Jurong Aracruz Shipyard. The tug remained stable and was monitoring the "Locar V" and its partially submerged and bent cargo in the inclement weather.
