Barge threatened to sink on the Waal
On Aug 5, 2018, the barge train "Trias"/"Obelix", 1127/1504 ts (EU-No.: 02326107/02317712), ran aground around 11 a.m. on the Waal near the railway bridge in Nijmegen. The ship was underway to Schmehausen with a cargo of coal and had left port just at 10.40 a.m. Possibly it was too heavy loaded for the low water level of the river. It suffered water ingress and was threatened to sink. Rescue forces tried to dewater the ship. The barge "Anroma" (MMSI: 244660723) went alongside to stabilize it. Rijkswaterstaat secured the site. The container barge managed to pull the casualty vessl to the North Canal Port in the afternoon, being escorted by a patrol boat of Rijkswaterstaat.Subsequently, the water was pumped out of the ship. Trias-Obelix out of control on Waal
On July 18, 2018, the "Trias-Obelix", 1127/1504 ts (EU-No.: 02326107/02317712), ran aground on the Waal off Nijmegen due to the low water level. During attempts to get off, the stern was caught by the current, and the ship drifted perpendicular to the fairway close to the railway bridge of the town. The captain dropped anchor and managed to regain control around 8 p.m. A cabin cruiser had to stop to avoid a collision, and Rijkswaterstaat timewise established one-way traffic on scene.
